I think both have a place in building your site. Adwords is good to start you off if you need traffic right away. You can have your site listed on the first page with Google and start getting traffic. But you need more cash to go this route.

Organic traffic, or traffic that comes to you via search engine results is more sustainable over time. This is the best traffic to have as you don’t keep paying for it over and over. The downside is it takes some work to climb to the top of the SERP’s (Search Engine Results Page) and get yourself list on the first or second page for the keywords you are chasing.
